There are hundreds, if not thousands, of mints. Many common names for mints are used rather loosely. So, for example, your Turkestan mint could refer to more than one different plant. Or it could be identical to another mint with another name. Compounding this problem is the fact that many mint species have a wide range of variability so that you can get dozens of slightly different versions of the same mint, and each potentially could be given different names.
