Vanilla Grass Scent

We purchased vanilla grass seed this year and have grown the plants to fill 4 inch pots. However, there is no vanilla scent detectable with these plants. Why not?

The vanilla scent will only be noticeable after the grass has been dried. The fresh plant does not have any scent beside some grass scent.
